William H. Dresbach is a fine representative of the young
farmers of Carroll County who are vigorously engaged in tilling its fertile
soil, and in extending its already immense agricultural interests. Our subject
is successfully and profitably managing his father's fine farm on section 13,
Salem Township.
He was born in Davenport, Iowa, Nov. 1, 1860 and is the
son of the well known Henry S. Dresbach, who as born near Harrisburg, PA May 8,
1835. The mother of our subject, whose maiden name was Amanda Giddings, was born
in Warren County IL May 17, 1840. They first settled in Davenport Iowa where
they resided about two years and then removed to Rock Island. Mr. Dresbach was
engaged in his calling as engineer and machinist in that city for two or three
years and then took his family to Galesburg IL. They lived there about three
years, and in 1865 removed to Mt. Carroll and soon after settled in Salem
Township. Mr. Dresbach then turned his attention to farming and purchased a farm
of 160 acres on which he has erected a substantial set of buildings and made
many other valuable improvements. He has placed the land under excellent
tillage, and for several years was quite extensively engaged in stock-raising,
but now rents his farm to his son, as before stated. He and his family are
people of high standing in this community and it is the testimony of those who
know him well that he is an upright man whose life is without blemish. He is a
keen business man, and is Secretary of the Rock Creek Mutual Fire Insurance
Company. In politics he is a stanch adherent of the Republican party.
Religiously, he and his wife are valued members of the Baptist Church. They have
two children - William H. and Fannie E. The latter is the wife of Arthur Snow of
Chicago.
Wm. Dresbach, of this sketch, was but an infant when his
parents brought him from his native State to Illinois and the most of his life
has been passed in this State. He received a good education in the public
schools of Carroll County and on his father's farm a good, practical training in
the best methods of carrying on agriculture, which he subsequently chose as his
life-work. He brings an intelligent, observant mind to bear on his work and
keeps the farm up to the same high standard that it had attained when it was
under his father's control, and he is meeting with the success that his active
and well - directed labors deserve.
Mr. Dresbach and Miss Belle M. Weidman were married in
Mt. Carroll Jan. 28, 1886. Mrs. Dresbach was born in Mt. Carroll, Oct. 12, 1863
and is a daughter of Daniel and Maria (Miller) Weidman, residents of that
township. Her parents have six children - Harry C., Nora L., Franklin B., Belle
M., Charles C., and Myrtle B.
