I am not exactly sure when Lydia Lockett (Palmer) died. She was apparently still living at the time her father, Jeremiah, wrote his will on August 11, 1851 as it states "..Edmund Lockett shall pay to Lydia Palmer my eldest daughter the sum of one hundred dollars at the expiration of two years from my death."

Lydia seems to have died after August of 1851 and before November of 1854, as her husband, David Palmer remarried, Catharine Draper November 4, 1854.

In the 1860 Census, Edwin J Palmer is listed as eight years old, (his actual date of birth is February 20, 1851), or 3 years, 9 months before David's second marriage.

Based on these facts, I believe that James Edward Palmer is the son of Lydia Lockett and David Palmer.
