Obituary for Phillip Miles Cotton

FUNERAL HELD AT MILLER

Miller - The funeral services for Miles Cotton was held April 22 at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Trotter officiating. Interment was in GAR Cemetery.

Pallbearers were George Niederauer, Mike Sisk, Myron Waring, Wayne Fawcett, Herley McCarl and Roy Yearous.

Reck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cotton was born Feb. 2, 1905, at Parker, the son of Phillip and Lucy Cotton. At the age of four, he moved with is family to Pleasant Valley Township in Hand County. He was baptized in Pleasant Valley Congregational Church. He attended rural school and was graduated from Miller High School.

On Aug, 28, 1929, he married Ethel Nelson and they had three son and two daughters. He served as Ohio Township clerk from 1938 to 1970.

Cotton died April 19 at an Aberdeen hospital where he had been hospitalized since March 16.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Barbara) Zieger and Mrs. Warren (Carole) Skinner, both of Miller; one son Jerry in the Air Force in Taiwan; three brothers, Ross, Miller; Wales, Aberdeen; John, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Lyle (Catherine) Haigh and Mrs. H. W. Crecelius (Alcinda), Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and infant twin sons.

Freeport, Illinois, November 27, 1940

ALBERT DRESBACH, MT. CARROLL

Mt. Carroll, Ill. Nov. 27 - Albert Dresbach, 67, passed away about 11 o'clock Tuesday night at his home in Mt. Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the home. Rev. James A Foard, pastor of the Mt. Carroll Methodist church, will officiate and burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Albert Dresbach was born near Mt. Carroll on September 21, 1873, and spent his entire life time in this community.

He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Earl Sword; one son, Wallace; a sister, Mrs. Warren Moore, all of Mt Carroll, and a brother, Frank Dresbach of Aberdeen, S. D.

Death Notice Alice Mae Dresbach

The Arizona Republican, (Phoenix, Arizona) July 31, 1899

DEATH OF MISS DRESBACH

Miss Alice Dresbach died of consumption Saturday morning at 5 o'clock, about six miles north of the city on the Black Canyon road at a ranch where she has been stopping for some time. Deceased was about 26 years of age and came here some time ago hoping to experience an improvement in her health. Her brother in Kansas City was immediately informed of her death and is now en route to this city. The remains have been embalmed and are awaiting his arrival. They will probably be taken to Illinois for interment.

'Dresback, driver of the stage between Sun Creek and Wells, was discovered in the bottom of the vehicle near the latter place November 24. From all appearences the man had been murdered.

KICKED TO DEATH

AN ELKO COUNTY STAGE DRIVER MEETS AN AWFUL FATE

Clyde W. Dresbach, a stage driver at Wells, went to sleep in his stage and a sudden lurch threw him over the dash board where he was kicked to death by a horse.

The accident occured on Tuesday and he was not found until the following Friday, the team still standing by the body.

"Someone e-mailed me the info a few years ago.

I went to the recorder's office this morning and looked up his death certificate. His initial is S. and his birth year is 1859. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. He died of asphyxiation by illuminating gas - suicide - at his home at 3449 Garnett St. in the city of Los Angeles, CA. The informant was Grace B. Woody who also lived at 3449 Garnett St. He was a retired rancher who had lived in California for 30 years. He was buried in Artesia Cemetery on July 7, 1925. The undertaker was Bede A. Johnson of Los Angeles, His death certificate no. is 6549, vol. 232.

Cora Dresbach is buried in grave 10 next to David. She was born in Illinois and died of septicemia. Her doctor was J.F. Groover. There is no death certificate for her. They weren't done in Los Angeles county prior to 1906.
Infant Dresbach is buried in grave 10 with Cora. There is no birth or death record so the child must have been stillborn."
