MRS. CRUTCHER

SWEETWATER (R N S) - Mrs. T. E. Crutcher, 87, longtime Sweetwater resident, died Tuesday morning in a Fort Worth nursing home.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Cate - Spencer Chapel with the Rev. Darris Egger, district superintendent of United Methodist Church of Abilene, officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mrs. Crutcher was born Lona Hopkins Oct. 9, 1884, at Ad Hall in Milam County. She married Tom Crutcher in 1904. They lived in Sweetwater most of their lives, he died in 1937.

Survivors are one daughter, Miss Mary Crutcher of Fort Worth; one sister, Mrs. E. E. Roy of Sweetwater; a daughter in law, Mrs. Sam Crutcher of Amarillo, one son, Sam died in 1967.

PIONEER RESIDENT DIES; SERVICES ARE PENDING

Mrs. S. W. Crutcher, about 91, a resident of Sweetwater 56 years, living the entire time in the 500 block of East Third St., died at 6 p.m. Friday in San Antonio where she had made her temporary home for a number of years.

Born in Clarksville, Tex., Aug. 30, 1853 she grew too young womanhood in Waco. Her home then known as Proctor Springs and is named for her mother, is now the city park of Waco. She was married in Waco in 1873 to E. W. Pierce. The couple settled in Calvert Tex.

To this union were born three children; Mrs. M. N. Rogers, of Sweetwater; the late Mrs. Thomas Trammell and E. W. Pierce of California. Mrs. Crutchers parents were Martha Elizabeth and James Stanford Houser. She was the fourth of a family of seven children, all having passed away with the exception of a sister, Mrs. Mollie J. Hill of Abilene.

She was married in the early 90's to S. W. Crutcher in Abilene the wedding being performed in the first Methodist Church. There were children born to the couple. They are Mrs. Ella Shugart and Mrs. Carl Williams of Sweetwater and a son, C. W. Crutcher of California. While residing in Abilene the late Mr. Crutcher was concerned with Cameron and Phillips hardware company.

A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she was a former Treas. of the Sweetwater first Methodist Church. Mrs. Shugart, Mrs. Willis Davis, a granddaughter, and Carl Williams were called to San Antonio when her condition became serious that reach her bedside after death came.

There are seven grandchildren, Mrs. H. A. Harding whose husband is a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, Birmingham, Ala.; Mrs. Willis Davis of Sweetwater, Edith Rogers of Birmingham, Ala.; Maddy Mae Pierce of California, Edward and Floyd Pierce, serving in the armed forces and Zeb Williams of Sweetwater.

Funeral services are pending arrival of Charles, her son. The body of Mrs. Crutcher will arrive this morning on the Santa Fe and will rest at Wells Funeral Chapel until the funeral hour has been set.

Dr. Charles E. Lea, 73, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at his home after battling lung cancer.
Dr. Lea was born Dec. 20, 1934 in Brunswick, the son of George E. Lea and Laura Crutcher Lea.
Survivors include: his wife, Kay Lea, of Lexington; three daughters and sons-in-law, DeJean Dace and her husband, Bob, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Elisabeth Brantley and her husband, Robert, of Yorktown, Va., and Nikki Emison and her husband, Brett, of Lee's Summit; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George Lea of California, Darren Lea and his wife, Jessica, of Parkville, son Scott Lea and his wife, Tara, of Omaha, Neb.; and 11 grandchildren.
His parents and his first wife, Lola (Bowyer) Lea, preceded him in death.
Dr. Lea touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. His calm demeanor, quiet compassion and unique humor will be missed by many.
Donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, at the First Baptist Church of Lexington. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 13, at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington.

MRS. ANNIE DAVIS

PARIS - Mrs. Annie Davis, 84, died at 10 p.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Hannibal, where she had been a patient several weeks.

Born November 11, 1886, in Monroe County, the daughter of Andrew and Trivilla Tanner McGee, she had resided for the past few years with Mrs. Pauline Schwantes in Paris. Mrs. Davis was married in October 1909 in Paris to Bruce Davis who died in March 1969. Two sons and one daughter also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gentry Featherstone, Paris, and Mrs. Pat Threlkeld, liberty; one son, Reginald Davis, Vandalia; one brother, Carey McGee, Mexico; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The body is at the Agnew funeral home, Paris, where funeral arrangements are pending.
