Samuel McClunny's third wife (Amanda S) in the 1920 Census, I believe is Amanda S Adams, the Daughter of Robert Adams and Mary S (Sophia?) Jett, of Mercer County, OH.
From Amanda's Obituary, Amanda was born near Celina, OH which is located in Mercer County, her approximate birth year is 1860 based on death year of 1923 and age at death of 63.....1923-63 = 1860. She lists her birthday as May 1861 in the 1900 Census, which would have made her age 62 (not 63) at the time of death.
Amanda's father, Robert Adams is listed in the
1850
Census in Morgan, Morgan County, Ohio with his first wife Charlotte and
three sons:
John Adams 7
Evi Adams 4
Leason Adams 2
Margaret Kincaid 48 (Mother in-law?)
Robert Adams is listed in the
1860
Census in Washington, Mercer County, Ohio with his second wife Sophia and
children:
Eva Adams (Evi) 13
Leson Adams 11
Mary Adams 9
Jett Adams 2
Henry Adams 6
Thomas Adams 10/12
Eliza Zensmaster 7 (Step daughter?)
Robert Adams is listed in the
1870 Census in Washington, Mercer County, Ohio with his
third wife Elnora and children:
Leson Adams 22
Mary Adams 19
Henry Adams 17
Jett Adams 12
Thomas Adams 10
Amanda Adams 9
Martin Adams 6
Robert Adams 2
Robert
Adams first wife,
Charlotte
Fisher Adams died in 1853, his third wife,
Elenora
Waltman Adams is listed as a stepmother in Amanda's Obit.
Based on this, I believe it must be Mary S Jett, who may have gone by Sophia
(1860 Census), and may have also been previously been married to a Zensmaster,
is the mother of Amanda.
Additionally, from Samuel Mc Clunny and Amanda’s July 4th, 1917 Kentucky marriage record, Amanda's parents are listed as R. Adamson and Sophia Adamson. Amanda is listed as Mandy Wilson and divorced.
Also from Amanda's obituary:
"The husband survives, with one son, Floyd Wilson, of Rio Grande California, and one daughter, Mrs. East, at whose home she died."
In the
1880
Census Amanda is married to John C Wilson and living in Worthington, Wells
County, Indiana.
In the
1900
Census we find John and Amanda living in Chester, Wells County, Indiana with
their two children Floyd and Nora.
In the
1910
Census we find Amanda, divorced from John and living in Chester, Wells
County, Indiana with her daughter, now Nora East and her husband John as well as
Amanda's son Floyd Wilson.
On July 4, 1917, Amanda and Samuel McClunny married and appear together in the
1920
Chester, Wells County, Indiana Census.
Interestingly, Amada's profession is listed as a waiter in a restaurant in the 1910 Census and Samuel McClunny is listed as in the restaurant business in the 1920 Census. (After having been a farmer all his life) I like to imagine a widowed Samuel taking his morning coffee at the same restaurant where Amanda worked, and this how they met, fell in love, married and perhaps went into business together.
